My optimism paid off! my last weekend was gloriously sunny, it was the perfect weather for a ‘mini break’ up North.
With the car packed with BBQ supplies Dave and I headed due North to visit friends, the entire weekend was spent outdoors jetting around on speedboats, wake-boarding, water skiing and inflatable rubber ringing…(is that a competitive sport? if not is should be!) picnicking, BBQing and just enjoying the warmth, sun shine and the great outdoors.
On the Saturday we took a tour of the Donegal coast through the beautiful picturesque town of Buncrana, Inishowen. The weather was spectacular that day and the water sparkled with a clear blue and green intensity, it was amazing to look at. As part of the tour we stopped into a little restaurant for coffee and cake called “The Beach House” and we were served by one of Dave’s former brides and also restaurant owner Claire.
The Beach House is like nothing I have ever seen, it is literally right on the water front with sand gathered up around the door, inside the colour scheme boasts of beach side creams and beige’s with large vintage storm lanterns on the mantel piece and gorgeous fairylights intertwined in the banisters, topped off with a view to die for!
The Beach House is a trendy venue run by a very welcoming couple, it caters for both lunch, dinner and boutique weddings. All the food is sourced locally, the menu features a wide selection of fresh seafood including gloriously tasty delights like Kataiti Prawns served with chilli jam and pickled cucumber, Pan fried Seabass, Seafood chowder, Crab Tian and much more, they also do provide alternatives for the meat eaters including Donegal Loin of Lamb (served pink) or Dry Aged Donegal Fillet Steaks.
Anybody interested in going on a little mini-break should really “Discover Northern Ireland” , there is so much to see, the coastline is amazing, and if you do go, make sure you make time to stop in at this little place and say hi to Claire!
